While you wait.

So it's been awhile. Turns out I'm lazy at blogging, who would have guessed that?

Anyway last time I left it I'd pulled the lock apart and needed a new part. I found a guy on eBay who was selling them (breakers yard), but rather than order on there I figured I'd just come and see him as he was local. Till that happened (two weeks) then I might as well tackle some other jobs.

First up was the air filter. I was confident that I wouldn't even have to open the manual in order to do this, and so it proved. I correctly identified the air box and even managed to unscrew it without dropping any screws.
I quickly swapped them over and screwed it back together, a nice quick win. the old filter was filthy, as can be seen in the nice comparison photo below.
With the air box sorted I wanted to get going on the brakes. First job was to jack the car up and get the wheels off. Luckily some time ago I bought some really nice adjustable chassis stands (I was thinking of fully restoring an MGB at the time) which I was hoping would fit on the 944. Sure enough it did, though there were a few hairy moments as it threatened to tip over as I had only one jack and had to use it at the middle of the car.
Now that the car was on these front and back the wheels could come off, brakes fixed and one of the most annoying things on the car could be fixed. Not only that but as the stands have their own (mini) wheels I can still move it around the garage and out into the (mostly non existent) sunshine.
